Meet the Therapist Behind Elevate, PLLC
Sonia Torres is the founder and lead therapist at Elevate, PLLC, a bilingual (English and Spanish) and bicultural private practice providing in-person and telehealth therapy throughout Colorado. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Sonia is dedicated to creating a supportive, collaborative environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful, lasting change.
She earned her Master of Social Work with a concentration in Family Systems and completed a certificate in Animal-Assisted Therapy at the University of Denver. Her clinical experience spans a wide range of settings, including community mental health centers, schools, primary care clinics, foster care, residential treatment programs, youth correctional facilities, and group homes. This diverse background allows her to understand the complex ways that personal, family, cultural, and systemic experiences influence mental health.
Sonia works with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, addiction, chronic illness, acculturation, and immigration-related stress. She has a particular passion for serving Latino communities, immigrants, and first-generation individuals, providing culturally responsive care that honors each client's unique experiences, values, and identity.
Her therapeutic approach is warm, compassionate, and evidence-based. Sonia believes that healing begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, authenticity, and respect. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, she partners with clients to identify their strengths, build resilience, and develop practical tools that support long-term emotional well-being.
Whether you are seeking support during a difficult season of life or working toward personal growth, Sonia is committed to helping you feel empowered, connected, and confident as you move forward.
Therapeutic Approach
Sonia's approach to therapy is trauma-informed, authentic, and collaborative. She strives to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to explore their experiences without judgment. She believes healing happens within the context of a trusting therapeutic relationship and that lasting change begins when clients feel emotionally safe enough to be curious about themselves.
Sonia understands that our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors are shaped by our life experiences, including our childhood, family dynamics, culture, and significant life events. Together, she and her clients explore these experiences to better understand present-day patterns, heal unresolved wounds, and foster healthier relationships with themselves and others. Her work emphasizes developing secure attachment, increasing self-awareness, and building resilience for lasting emotional well-being.
Recognizing that no two people have the same story, Sonia tailors treatment to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals. She integrates evidence-based approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Attachment-Based Therapy to support meaningful and lasting change.
Sonia also believes that healing involves both the mind and the body. When appropriate, she incorporates mindfulness, breathwork, somatic awareness, meditation, and AcuDetox to help clients reconnect with their bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and process emotions more effectively. As a Registered Kundalini Yoga Teacher (200-hour YTT), she brings an understanding of the mind-body connection that complements traditional psychotherapy while always adapting interventions to each client's comfort level and treatment goals.
Above all, Sonia believes therapy should leave clients feeling more connected to themselves, more confident in their strengths, and better equipped to navigate life's challenges with clarity, resilience, and hope.
